Recent studio visit from Plymouth artist Shaun Gilbert, who brought along some of his new coastal inspired paintings. Shaun has a few originals on display at the studio, some framed and ready to go, along with browser held prints for customers to frame as they wish. Shaun's style often captures the characteristics of a landscape while intensifying and interjecting colour, creating almost surreal impressions of place and moods.

I see such a great variety of art each week, which always generates interesting discussions with clients on framing options. Sometimes I'm able to match the preconceptions of what they want. Other times, just trying out different samples throws up possibilites not even considered. Always worth a visit and allowing some time for a discussion. Here's a few of this weeks favourites for me.

Four panel textile ‘seascape’ by artist Sue Gi

Four panel textile ‘seascape’ by artist Sue Giblett, based near Braunton, North Devon. Sue has a strong environmentally friendly ethos, which is evident in her use of recycled fabrics and eco-dyes in this piece. I was fascinated to find out more from Sue on her techniques to use rusting metals to naturally dye the cotton canvases. The carefully considered bolder stitching across the sand, works really well to accentuate the delicate fabrics at the waters edge. There’s a really tactile aspect to Sue’s work that pulls your gaze closer into the details.
With sewn fabric handles on the reverse for a choice of rotation when hanging, (sand at the bottom, or at the top) it’s really your choice. Come and view for yourself.

It invokes so many happy memories of this beautiful beach and time spent enjoying the surf there.
